Visited a Store and was shunned
I have had mixed results when stereo shopping.   Some shops seem uninterested, others do their job, which as a salesman is to sell. My wife, upon entering a shop in Toronto, once said in a slightly raised voice "Your limit is $10,000 and no more"...
1st Impression, Join the Forum?
This site is pretty good in my opinion. I am also on Canuck Audio Mart, and somehow I spend nearly no time there.  However, I have found that on Canuck site there are virtually no nasty or rude comments.  That could be my lucky experience, I just ...

What a story.
To Equalize or Not to Equalize
If you use JRiver to playback your music, it has a built in equalizer.
The Best Sounding Systems can Play Loudly with Low Distortion
I think that no distortion at high volume is a sign of a good system. So, I think the Title of this post is accurate.  It could sound equally as good at low volume. Define high vs low? Any time I hear music played at super high volume, to give you...
2026 best deal in audiophile class D stereo amp?
this is above your price range, but, I am super happy with my purchase. RCVTech MPA-1200 monoblocks. 380 wpc 8ohms, 700 wpc 4 and 2 ohms. Beats my Mark Levinson 532H amp, more detail, more bass, more stereo separation, just plain better.   I con...
$35000 to $40,000. speakers what would you buy and why?
I like the idea of best in show gear, assuming it is in the price range.  I live 4 1/2 hours from the nearest stereo shop, and that could be like calling Best Buy a boutique stereo shop..  you get the idea.   I based my decision on what Abbey Road...
Do you buy new, used or new or used gear?
Music server new, DAC new refurbished, preamp used, previous power amp used, new power amps new, speakers store demo. Typically has been used.  HT system, new receiver, speakers were a mix of new and used.  Luckily I owned Paradigm Studio 100's, a...
Do Fuses make a difference ib sound?
Funny, but my 2 cents. I used to own a Bryston BDA3 DAC.  For whatever reason, I decided to try, on promise of a full refund ( not credit ), a Synergistic Research Orange Fuse. I was very skeptical.  The DAC was well broken in, I had used it for ...
What blues are you listening to today?
Robben Ford comes to mind. Buddy Guy..
Upgrade from B&W 802D1 to Focal Utopia Scala Evo
@bartsw I recently changed amps.  I was using a Mark Levinson 532H, 300 wpc amp, on my B+W 802 D2 speakers. I was never happy with the bass. The ML 532H does not double down, so it's 300 wpc at 8 ohms, not rated at anything else. I put in Class D ...
Amp longevity, if well taken care of --the risks of purchasing used equip.
I have enjoyed most of my gear for years, to decades. I have also bought most of my gear used. I particularly had issues with a YBA CD player, which went for repairs twice in the 20 years I owned it. Rubber belts. To be expected.  I had an ongoing...
My thoughts on my first Class D amp
@audio-b-dog I think you are most likely right about amps matching musical preferences. For example, I can see orchestra played music sounding better on tubes, with the harmonic and overtones tubes are good at. I think an amp / preamp that is warm...
My thoughts on my first Class D amp
@doni   Wife and I are both in agreement.  My speakers have never sounded this good.  I really cranked up Jethro Tull, Locomotive Breath...  Starts with piano solo, and then wham, hits with the whole band, guitar, has a flute solo.  Just wow.  @m...
Three things I’ve learned about listening.
I like your list. I recently upgraded my amp, and the sound of the music changed. More bass, crisper bass, more stereo separation, more detail, slightly different sound, possibly a bit 'brighter' or possibly just more detail... who knows? Anyways...
