Mobile Fidelity Anti-Static Record Brush

Hi, saw this was on sale at Music Direct.  Looks like the Audioquest one that's been around for a long time.  Does anyone have experience with this one?  Any other recommendations for a dry brush?

I tried one. I did not like it. I did not feel it did either... anti static or pick up dust. But I have always struggled with these things. I even bought a Ramar brush from Germany... five hundreds of dollars. I couldn’t get it to pick up dust. I called and talked to them. They said is takes a "technique" to do it. I could not get it.

I use the Last All Purpose cleaner and their brush. A quick turn or two and by the time I futz around a little bit, it’s dry and I play the record. Works great.

I use the  Hudson’s HiFi Anti Static Cleaning arm. Once I got this, my static problem went away. It’s only $29.95. You want to buy my Ramar... barely used $500.

I find for dry cleaning, my Audioquest brush works great.  I have the current model, but also have several older models and the Decca version that these were based on, plus many other ones.  Just looked in my drawer and found at least a half a dozen different old brushes.  Someone would come out with a new one, so I just had to try it.

I've used these type of brushes for almost all my 50+ year audiophile career and always thought they did a decent job...

For years I augmented my VPI HW-17 RCM with a progression of carbon fiber dusting brushes, beginning with the Decca, then the Hunt (it and the Decca both British), and more recently the improved Audioquest.

I just received an Ursa Major, a German designed and built brush. Last year the company suspended all shipments to the U.S.A. (wonder why), so I sent the money for one (around 80 bucks) to my niece---who lives there, and had her ship it to me. I’m still learning to use it, but it already outperforms all others.

@bdp24...I tried to order one of those when they first announced them, but ran into the same thing.  I just sent them an email to see what’s up now.

Thanks for the mention of this brush!

I have a couple of friends in Deutschland that get records for me.  I’ll contact them to see if they can send me one.

HHV will ship to the USA.  Just ordered one in Walnut to match my custom VPI HW-19.

I’ve been using a no-name carbon fiber brush for 35 or 40 years. It has a metal handle that originally had a connector for a wire to go between the brush and the turntable or phono preamp grounding post. That wore out years ago, so now I just touch it to a grounded metal part on my turntable, to get it at or close to ground potential. Works quite well when I do that, hit or miss if I don’t.

With the MoFi brush and its plastic handle you might be able to achieve the same effect by touching some bristles to a grounded piece of metal. However, if memory serves, carbon fibers have much better conductivity longitudinally than transverse, so it might not work if the fibers aren’t all connected to a good conductor.
