My new speakers

After owning Monitor Audio PL500 II speakers for 10 years, I’ve purchased my last speakers, YG Acoustics Sonja 3.3s. They are definitely different than my Monitor Audio PL500 II speakers. In my opinion, Monitor Audio PL500 II speakers offer a great value and do many things well. BUT, the Sonja 3.3s are clearer, tonality is improved, more dynamic and instruments/singers are more palpable. I’m not suggesting a night and day difference, but easily discernible differences. Unfortunately, Incremental improvements are very expensive in this hobby. I would say that I’m done, but I’m sure I’m going to change my Chord Dave DAC.

Congratulations! Wow those are some speakers.

I would not blame you on swapping the DAC. It is often described as ruthlessly revealing. Something more natural sounding might enhance the musicality of the presentation.

Congrats on the Sonja 3.3s. I think you wil find over time that the YGs differentiate recordings to such an extent that they are endlessly entertaining. Give them time and they will open up a new musical world for you.

Congrats! I haven’t heard that particular model but can imagine they’re truly spectacular based on what I’ve heard from the brand.

How’d it go integrating your REL 32s? Given your room treatments, perhaps it wasn’t too challenging.

On the Dave, - given the high bar of the rest of your system, I’d have to agree a potential weak link. And so it goes.

Nicely done!

If one acquires the smallest form factor components, it leaves a lot of space for the speakers to breathe. laugh

Cannot imagine such a speaker would need a sub to augment the sound, but a pair of REL 32 subs is some serious sh*t. Not sure how you tame the bass to discover the rest of the music! (REL 32 go down to 15Hz! My dog would flip out!)

I would think a Dave DAC that is injected with some warmth via tubes, cables, etc. would remedy the revealing characteristics it provides. But a Meitner or Bricasti would seem to fit the bill and fill out a really high end system.

You ain't done 'til it's over, and even then, you won't stop thinking about what could be..  now get down with the sickness!

I listened to the YG active speakers at the Tampa audio show this year. I thought these were the best speakers at the event. These cost under $80k with all the electronics. These sounded better than the much more expensive speakers at the show.
