Evaluation of my 2ch system

Greetings all,

As the title states, I am looking for honest, not denigrating,  feedback on my system and if any feel improvements can be made within the msrp budget of said system.

I have a dedicated room that is 23x15x10.5, no big windows and those that it has are covered with thick curtains.  I do have some acoustic treatments, acoustic panels and it is carpeted.

SOURCE :  Eversolo T8/Z10 combo, Marantz SA8005, Thorens TD 160 with SME 3009.

PRE:  McIntosh C8

POWER: Parasound A21+

SPEAKERS:  Tannoy System 15DMT II, Tannoy XT8F, AND 1973 Vertical Cornwalls that have been updated with new xovers, woofers and tweeters.

INTERCONNECTS:  all power cords and interconnects (XLR) are Emotiva and speaker cables are some older Nordost 2 or 4 wire flats.

I love the sound of dual concentrics, I had all forms of klipsch, and I enjoyed them all until I heard the Tannoys and realized I found horns fatiguing, or at least that’s what I think it’s the cause.

Anywho any input is appreciated.  I will now break out the popcorn.

Cheers

Have you considered adding a sub or two? Your room has a fair amount of cubic volume (high ceilings). Your also limited to placement options whereas subs can be positioned properly. Seating location is also critical. The Tannoy XT8F are great speakers but you could fill in the very bottom end.  Subs would also help have better scale at lower listening levels.

They are -6db @32 hz. A sub would add weight and body to the music. You should call REL and talk to them.

That is a very nice room size, higher ceilings than many of us.

I encourage you to take some photos (phone camera photos are good enough) and post a Virtual System here.

Once I learned how, I’ve gone hog wild posting this and that.

Well, in my compromised rooms, I have found that the set up that favors tone, timbre and dynamics sometimes comes at a cost of imaging. For example, to get that thicker, richer tone I love, I might have to move my speakers a little closer together than would be best if having a big soundstage was your priority. For me, I don't care very much about imaging and soundstage, so that's what I do.

I have an audio friend who optimized his system and room for imaging, and it is very impressive! Living beings playing instruments in his room. Almost creepy. But for my ears, it felt a little threadbare tone-wise.

Some people have spaces (and skills) where they don't have to compromise. In my reality, I seem to have to make choices, and I have.

I hope you don't have to compromise much...

There was a discussion recentlyhttps://share.google/Ug3gwpXTF3krWfiyh about whether your analog is equal to your digital. If they’re both the same, then I guess you’re done, but there are several things you can do in the digital chain to help improve. I would start by looking at a network switch, https://share.google/3JakwqDDyIMfn7m9Cand there are plenty of people who report that a good quality ethernet cable can help also. https://share.google/cOiHxKxgEqmBvwnKP

Seems reasonable system.  I’m not a big fan of the Marantz, having owned one that will soon be up for sale.  I’ve never heard Tannoy but haven’t been impressed by what I’ve read.

Is it just the streamer that sounds lacking or is it the Marantz as well?
