Power tubes on a lps

I have a modwright power supply feeding my oppo sonica dac/streamer

modifed by Modwright.  I swapped a Genalex gold lion u77 and installed a

ge 5u4gb.  Ge is more precise, detailed and deeper spacialy.
The genalex is warmer and easier to connect to but more 2D.

Power tubes sound different.

I do want to add something I keep going back to.

I do miss the Vinnie Rossie / Red Wine overall sound.
It can do it all and better with the right speakers.  But I haven’t finished

exploring what the rest if my system can do.  Either iteration,

its better than  all but a hand full of rooms at Axpona.

and that is from my wife who hears the differences and makes

the adjustments to placement to dial it all in.  Such a fun

Passion.

Yep… tube choices matter even in a power supply for a … wait for it…. Turntable..

see Brinkmann RoNt II with Mullard rectifier…

glad you are enjoying your journey and the music

My experience has been the tubes sound different, including in power supplies. Tubes are a variable. Sometimes subtle, sometimes less so, but that same difference can vary from circuit to circuit and system to system.

I keep seeing new things you can  buy tubed. Is there anything you can’t put tubes in?! They will be putting tubes  on cables next!

I have the little Had Inspire SEP stereo tube amp that Max’s at 12wpc. It takes any power tube from el34 to KT 150. It has a rectifier tube hence I have about 8 nos rectifier tubes. While doing extensive tube rolling I found that with the lower voltage rectifier tubes I get that smooth mellow sound but with full bass that is usually referred to as “ Sag “ by guitar players. Look up Dub Step Girls rectifier tube review. It’s an interesting read. Cheers , Mike B.
