Sure, it works with a transformer. But if there is an issue with the unit do you want to deal with a seller Japan? That is where a local (USA) dealer is worth their weight. My Mola Mola Makua does not power up after a recent cable change. I checked the fuse but no luck. My dealer Bill Parish, GTT Audio, took care of the entire return and repair for me. Smoooth.
Buying a Luxman L505z from Japan
Hey, so I’m looking to purchase a Luxman L505z from Japan - I will need a 120-100v step down transformer . I wanted to find out if anyone has experience with this and if it will compromise the sound in anyway? I saw one from a dealer on eBay with a 99% rating, but I’m unsure if I should trust it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated

Most of the naysayers have never tried to power a Japan amp with a step down. I have done so successfully with Luxman and Accuphase. With the Accuphase's, I used a step down before having converted to US 120V spec. NO difference in sound. I second @elliottbnewcombjr 's rec. I have that very unit and have had great results. Enjoy! |
Maybe a 40% savings. If nothing goes wrong with the unit, a decent risk benefit proposition. ------------------------------------------ Ebay Seller in Japan = $3,500 Tariffs = $350 (assuming 10%) Delivery = free Transformer = $100 TOTAL Japan Market Unit = $3,950 US Market Unit MSRP = $7,000 Sales taxes = ??? Shipping = assume free ??? |
