+1 @oddiofyl ! too significant of a purchase...and why would you want a step up or down transformer when you can get 120v
Buying a Luxman L505z from Japan
Hey, so I’m looking to purchase a Luxman L505z from Japan - I will need a 120-100v step down transformer . I wanted to find out if anyone has experience with this and if it will compromise the sound in anyway? I saw one from a dealer on eBay with a 99% rating, but I’m unsure if I should trust it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated

If the seller is legit, do not worry about the voltage, I have a JVC TT81 TT, 100v, and use a decent but inexpensive step-down transformer (as do many people, for many audio equipment items). I've used it since 2019. Size larger than your unit’s power needs (consider a larger future load)
they have one for 500 watts, this one is 1600 watts

Sure, it works with a transformer. But if there is an issue with the unit do you want to deal with a seller Japan? That is where a local (USA) dealer is worth their weight. My Mola Mola Makua does not power up after a recent cable change. I checked the fuse but no luck. My dealer Bill Parish, GTT Audio, took care of the entire return and repair for me. Smoooth. | ||
Most of the naysayers have never tried to power a Japan amp with a step down. I have done so successfully with Luxman and Accuphase. With the Accuphase's, I used a step down before having converted to US 120V spec. NO difference in sound. I second @elliottbnewcombjr 's rec. I have that very unit and have had great results. Enjoy! |
