Accuphase DC-1000 Processor/DAC
After a recent thread on streamers I decided to look into DACs, particularly the Accuphase DC-1000. Currently own an Accuphase DC-37 Processor/DAC . My Innuos Pulsar feeds the DC-37 via Innuos Phoenix USB out. The DC-37 feeds my Accuphase C2300 preamplifier via XLR. Seeing that streaming is my only source for music, I'm considering upgrading my DAC to the Accuphase DC-1000 and I'm wondering if this is an actual and noteworthy upgrade.

Thx @donquichotte ! I’ll keep that in mind. That is an unexpected failure mechanism- usb interfaces are usually highly resilient to ESD and live insertion by design. Accuphase is also super conservative with their design execution. If you don’t mind my asking, what did you experience that led to this warning? Thank you |
@audiopacer : I asked an allegedly knowledgeable Accuphase service man in Poland about a USB input glitch in an Accuphase SACD player and he said it's the USB receiver that has been (slightly) damaged most likely due to hot insertion. Also, I have read that at least the Accuphase DC37's USB input is prone to being damaged by quick power on/off cycling and such. Maybe other Accuphase machines are just as sensitive. Better safe than sorry. I’m very pleased to report that I’ve picked up my new Accuphase DC-1000 DAC, and it is exceptional. The drive to Montreal was about 6.5 hours each way, but it was absolutely worthwhile. The scenery was outstanding and the French Canadians were genuinely warm and welcoming. My previous Accuphase DC-37 was an excellent DAC but the DC-1000 is definitely a step forward. Everything the DC-37 does well, the DC-1000 does with greater refinement and ease. It feels as though a veil has been lifted, revealing greater clarity, separation, and natural detail—notes emerge more freely and with less obscuration. Overall, it’s a remarkable upgrade and an outstanding piece of engineering and I couldn’t be happier. I should point out that I've always loved my Klipsch LaScala AL5 speakers but now it's like I'm hearing an improved version of this speaker. These big boxes have literally disappeared in my room and the music is so beautiful. This DAC is unreal so don't let anyone tell you that DACs and streamers are all the same. This thing is magical. |
