Need help with dating Dunlavy SC4's

Greetings fellow enthusiasts!

I need help in finding the manufacturing date of a pair of Dunlavy SC4's.

Serial numbers are 1231A and 1231B.

I'm not too tech savvy and have not had success in Google searching for dates by serial number.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

@judsauce, I bought a pair of Duntech Princess in 1990, built in Australia.  It was after that when John Dunlavy returned to the US to open a new facility to build in Utah.  I think that was called the Black Knight.  My assumption he set up production in the US to avoid such long shipping for very heavy speakers.  Mine weighed 180 pounds each.  It was not the success Duntech hoped for and John left the company to open Dunlavy Audio Labs in Co.  I'm not sure of that date but at least a couple of years passed since 1990.

From that I would say the pair reviewed by Stereophile were early so built in 1993 or 4.  What gets interesting is how much higher your serial numbers are, plus the are A/B with the same number rather than sequential numbers. ?

Also after John became ill and sold DAL it did not survive more than a year.  With the different serial sequence could yours have been from that last company?

@pryso Thanks for all of that interesting history.  You bring up a good  point about the the serial numbers. I have a pair of Dunlavy SC3's that I bought in December, 1998. Those serial numbers were similar to what you picked up on with the SC4's: same number with the A and B , 960A, 960B. So I'm not so sure it has anything to do with company that bought them before they went belly up. One footnote: the surrounds on my 28 year old SC3's are in perfect condition. Unbelievable!  Thanks again for your post.

@middlemass  I wondered if anyone would pick up on the awkward wording of my post. You sure did. Made me laugh.

First... get some pretty flowers and pick out a nice place to eat. Then, if things go well, you can take in a movie. Things can progress naturally from there. 🙃

@jijoh123  great advice. Do you think if I mated my sc4's with a pair of sc4a's that they would produce a little Athena?

@viridian   this isn't a debate about sealed or ported enclosures. It's about finding out about a manufacturing date of the above mentioned speakers.

If you have any advice on their age, please share. Would welcome your input.Thanks.
