Start visiting audiophile systems if you can find one , who can guide you. Then figure out what system looks and sound you like. Be careful with dealers there are few who are honest to meet your need but their need. So start also bringing audio stuff in your own place see if you will like them? I warn you the audio journey is a very long journey stressful, tiring but if audio is your passion it’s fun. Lastly get the book of Robert Harley. And go to YouTube.Good Luck.
Where to get advice on a new system build
Hello,
I’m jumping back into stereo stuff again after a long hiatus, I was in the high end industry for quite some time before I changed careers.
I haven’t heard anything in 5+ years, so listening is going to be first.
The question I have is, who can I work with to help me sort this out? I have no idea what I will end up with, and I would love to explore for a bit, subsequently, until I listen to some equipment I couldn’t commit to a product line / dealer (if that’s what I will need to do).
I know that there are dealers on this site, and I would like your thoughts too. I was a dealer and I thoroughly enjoyed helping people with their journey, when they picked up something elsewhere I felt a little bad.
I have a dedicated and treated room, and I would prefer used equipment.

Op 20 yrs ago there is a guy in Florida who reach out to me and help him put up his system by phone for free. I just want to help him enjoy this hobby. According to him , he read some of my post and saw my systems here at Agon. My systems at Agon are not updated.you can pm some of the members here if you think they can help you. |
@jayctoy thanks for this. I made a good portion from labor as I was the custom guy, that afforded me the ability to have more fun with the audio. I get it though, you buy a honda from a Honda dealer, they may have a trade in, but if it doesn’t sell the send it to auction. good idea about getting interested agon folks to help. I think that would be helpful. Let me take a look around the members systems as well. I like the journey a lot, potentially more than the conclusion. I’m onto the next research project immediately thereafter. |
@maxwave thank you. I’ve started to run into some similar groups, at least on paper, encouraging. Getting products from outside the US, unless they are USA made, has become a little more difficult. I’m not sure how well I could reward them for their support. thank you all, this is what I an looking for, what are the available resources to make this happen, and I am discovering that there are many options. |
