I'm convinced (after a lot of research) that decoupling is the way. Vibrations sent into the floor come back up. That's my simplistic version of what I've gathered. Townshend podiums have been game-changing for me, but if they're too pricey (and they will really work with you on price), something else, at least.

My listening room is carpet over concrete and Townshend Podiums made a very noticeable improvement in imaging and detail. Was actually shocked at the level of improvement. They are not cheap, but I consider them to be one of the best values for the benefit. Another benefit of the podiums is they do not raise the tweeter height significantly compared to many of the other quality isolation alternatives. |
They weigh 112 lbs each. I tried spikes, both hard floors with a small metal disc, and on carpet. I heard no advantage, I did not like lack of mobility, gave them to my friend. I alter my toe-in for centered, or two off-center listeners. https://www.audiogon.com/systems/11516 I would add 3 low profile wheels to the bottom of the base, because 3 is 33% more weight per wheel than 4 wheels, and self leveling wherever you place them. You need to prevent tipping: either replace the bottom board with something bigger; add a skirt to conceal the wheels, or rear corner blocks, (either just short of the carpet), but if they start to tip, they make contact, preventing further tip. Some wheels have brakes, mine stay put without brakes, but move with effort.
