New PMG Amplifiers are out (curious about heat dissipation)
Class AB is anachronistic and so are tubes. Efficiency is inverse to the heat a device produces, and this thing has cast iron fins. Others have cooling fans. Tubes will never outperform solid state transistors, outperformed by optical switches.
Do you trust published gear reviews?
I trust published reviews when they have soundly analyzed measurements and appropriate price point comparisons. Same with YouTube. Another interesting dimension is reviewers' testing scopes, microphones, and sound rooms. My wife reads reviews in J...
Speaker types- your preference and your journey?
My end game speakers are my Yamaha NS-5000. It is a power hungry design but the balance between all drivers of the identical material trumps my friend's ML electrostatics, and his friend's expensive cone speakers with folded ribbon tweeters. I nev...
New PMG Amplifiers are out (curious about heat dissipation)
My two impressions are: PMG is a senior citizen with 20th Century tolerance for inefficiency; a profound drive to erase all things BHK. How many times does Class AB require reinvention?
Audio snobbery
Since I bought my Panasonic SA-XR 50 in 2003 I today own four class D amps. I love their compact dimensions, effortless power, and cool running. I live in a net metered solar powered house in the desert so they are perfect.
Are there any current production great speakers using AMT tweeters?
For the $15K you could get a  stand mount speaker with drivers of all the same material across  woofer, midrange, tweeter with a real plywood cabinet: Yamaha NS 5000.
Separates over time, or Integrated now?
Look at more affordable class D monoblocks with useful power for your musical transitions. VTV, Wyred4Sound, Deer Creek. Financing consumer audio equipment is not sound management. Modern class D run cool and the mono design is easier to package i...
Dynaudio Confidence Alternatives
For $15K look at Yamaha NS-5000. All drivers are the same material. Max wattage is 600. Baffle is 3 cm plywood. Box is 2 cm plywood. 72 pounds. CAD joinery. Overengineered painted steel stands accept casters.
Is anyone still using a CD Player
Keep my CDs. Ripped most of them to a flash drive for road trips  Harmon Kardon system in my Subaru. My internet service was raided by private equity with crumbs snapped up by an inept useless giant. Streaming is not reliable.
Thinking about simplifying to an integrated amp
Keep the fine preamp and buy monoblocks. If one goes down you can still listen to the other. If the integrated goes down you have no sound. Like a twin engine aircraft.
Subwoofers: Do you turn them off when you are done for the day?
Mine has a 12 volt trigger wired to my preamp.
Voltage conversion of Accuphase A-45 from 100v to 120v
Take it to a qualified repair shop and have it done there.
2026 best deal in audiophile class D stereo amp?
Wyred4Sound SX 1000-R monoblocks.
$35000 to $40,000. speakers what would you buy and why?
Yamaha NS 5000 has more advanced technology than any of those on your list. Strongly urge you to hear them before deciding. We were on our way to buy Magico in southern California but stopped to hear the Yamahas for giggles. Bought them. Much larg...
Best bang for the buck
Yamaha NS-5000. You could spend ten times the money and never match the driver technology.
