@limomangus:
When you say Dave Edmunds’ 1st LP, are you speaking of his 1971 album entitled Rockpile (album title, not to be confused with his later band bearing the same name)? I didn’t hear that album at the time of its release, but after hearing Dave’s 1977 album Get It (on Swan Song Records, Dave being signed by Robert Plant) I immediately looked for both Rockpile and his 1973 album Subtle As A Flying Mallet. Dave was---and remains---my favorite artist of the 1970’s and ’80’s.
I wasn’t listening to radio in 1970, so missed Dave’s first solo single (he had previously been in a band named Love Sculpture) "I Hear You Knocking", a killer remake of a 1950’s Smiley Lewis Blues song. John Lennon made a point of heaping praise on the single, which made it into the Top 10 in both England and the USA. Pure 100% American Rock ’n’ Roll!
