Pondering REL and Dynaudio subwoofers.

I recently got a rel classic 99 subwoofer, which sounds excellent and matches perfectly with my dynaudio heritage specials.  A thing is it has a well documented issue of a hum when my class D  Orchard Audio Starkrimson Ultra is powered off (also use Freya+ F).  I'm trying various methods to resolve that,.  Another option is to return that sub and get a dynaudio sub. 6.  I'm finding many features of the sub 6 being very intriguing.  DSP and matching base mgt with my Heritage specials.  I don't have a typical listening room, So my acoustics are not the best.

I'd be curious to hear any opinions on either the classic 99 or Sub 6.

I have Dynaudio Confidence C2 Platinum speakers and a REL six-pack line array of S/510 subs. I had some hum issues at first, but resolved them. I connect the base pair of the REL sub array to the main loudspeaker terminals directly, but just the red/yellow (hot) leads. I connect the black ground leads back to a common grounding station for my system (a Clearaudio Terra), instead of the ground terminal on the speakers. No hum, no buzz, pure joy.

Grounding issues can be a PITA. Don't blame the gear. Blame the setup and solve it.

With REL subs, you can always connect the high level cable directly to speakers instead of the amp, and they now recommend it as the better option.

This is confirmation of what I did on post 6. It seems to work well.

@dwette  sounds like a heck of a REL subwoofer array! Didn't have a grounding station but did try grounding through a couple different components.   I'd assume Rel would have a reliable solution for class D amps, but no.

It's a mute point for me now.  I traded in my REL Classic 99 for the Dynaudio Sub 6.   I'll be happy to report back here once I have it set up in about a week.

Grounding can be a challenge in a system, and it can vary from one system to the next. Until I came upon my current solution I either had low level hum in my speakers or the same in my subs. Now it’s finally eliminated completely. I’m glad to now have a common ground station for the system. If I add anything that needs to be grounded I know where to connect it. I sourced a 25’ 14 gauge ground wire from Amazon for nearly nothing to make up more ground wires if I need. For now, I have no hum/buzz whatsoever.

I also have my hifi on a quad outlet connected to a dedicated circuit, on an electrical sub-panel with its own ground, separated from the rest of the house (and all the appliances and HVAC).

@gotolondon2   I have had Velodyne, JL Audio, and SVS subs.

Which model Velodyne and how did you determine its position in your room?
