..plugs should match jacks, e.g. pure copper (tellurium copper) plugs are the best if jacks are using the same metallurgy process/materials. gold (or other) plating can be bad, if gold comes on top of nickel or other interlayer metal, instead of direct deposition on core metal.

Those are the same BFA-Type low mass plugs I use. They are very inexpensive and work exceptionally well. I like that they are mechanically self-tightening due to the sprung brass construction and they do not depend on tightening the binding post to keep them locked in. |
I believe in crimping: no additional mass or metallurgical complications. In my experience the mass in most complex models (WBT er al) is detrimental. When crimping, it is important to clean the cable ends and using heatshrink to finish is advisable. When soldering I recommend to use a silver solder (WBT) |
