Now, anyone could mount any cartridge on these Rega Arms properly! (222mm mounting distance)

I like round numbers, I have a chance of remembering them.

15 mm overhang (14.5)

57 mm inner null point (56.9mm)

117 mm outer null point (116.84) 

For proper VTA: don’t forget to shim the arm height properly for your cartridge’s height. Rega’s are 14mm high. Add ____? thick shim to get up to your cartridge’s height.

Get the measurements, or Measure when lowered with tracking force applied

Rega and other’s sell them, many require you to fully disconnect the arm to put the single piece circular shims in place.

This kit lets you slip two pieces in from the edges, so you do NOT need to remove the arm, just loosen it, slide them in, tighten it.

I ask you, who if anyone has gathered the specifics of using non-Rega cartridges on Rega TT’s better than me?

How much resistance did I need to overcome to get to the answers?

It shouldn't be that way.

I don't know guys.  Please don't shoot me for saying this but that set up disc looks...well...let me put it this way I wouldn't trust it for an expensive cartridge.  Let me put it another way, I can set 222mm on my Feikert too, but would that establish a valid set up?  My doubts it.  You can do what you want.  Of course you can.  But will it be right?  What harm could it cause to records?  To stylus?  To Cantilever?  Will it sound OK with minimum distortion?  Proceed with caution.  Or not.  

Dover says the Rega arms are designed for Stevenson alignment or some near approximation.  I have found the same to be true of my Dynavector DV505 and 501 tonearms, Stevenson or near to it. However, your and my Feickert protractor is calibrated for Baerwald or Lofgren.  I think mine has different gradations on each side of the white disc, one side for each of two algorithms. But neither side is calibrated for Stevenson. You would have to twist the cartridge in the headshell.  I really don't exactly know why E is hell bent on knowing the null points in mm.  You don't need to know them if you do know overhang (14.5mm) and P2S (222mm).  Dover even stated the headshell offset angle.  With those data, you can calculate the null points, if you must.  VE has it, as Dover said.  I believe John Ellison over on Vinyl Asylum also has created a calculator which he shares freely. I would hate to have to align a cartridge knowing only the null points.  The null points just fall out wherever based on the accuracy of P2S, overhang, and headshell angle.  By the way, a little zenith error and you are wrong all the time anyway,

You draw an arc at 222 mm.

You figure out where (on the 222mm arc) the counterweight will fit (when in the arm rest) inside the dust cover when closed

You drill a proper sized hole.

Then, you ascertain the specs for THAT ARM

The makers have specific recommendations

ANY protractor with a variety of lines can work for any cartridge.

No math, no calculations, just twist the cartridge (retaining proper overhang) and make the best compromise of the two null points you can and tighten the screws.

It’s ridiculous how long it took, how much persistance was needed, to get the simple answer.

Now, if anyone asks, we can help them mount a non-rega cartridge in a rega arm!
