How Many Listeners Here Listen Mostly With Eyes Closed?

Even at live concerts I am listening with eyes closed about 80% of the time.

At home in front of the system, lights off, eyes closed for seriuos listening (which is greater than 75% of the time).

In concerts, eyes closed about 80-90% of the time.

I just hear better and focus better on the sound, the muscic with my eyes closed.

I think it is partially due to turning off my visual cortex.  We are visual creatures and the visual cortex at the back of the brain uses a large of the brain capacity.  From Google:

"Roughly 40% to 50% of the human brain is involved in visual processing when our eyes are open, with some studies suggesting up to two-thirds of the brain's electrical activity is dedicated to vision. The visual system is one of the brain's highest energy consumers, accounting for approximately 44% of total energy consumption."

We turn off extra little processes in our music servers and think the music sounds better.  How about turning off 50% of unnecessary CPU cycles.  That would be (and I think is) huge.

If the buzz is good, sometimes I see colors with my eyes closed (a bonus).

Focus on listening, not seeing.  Turn off the other brain systems.

Enjoy!!

PS-yes, I am a neuroscientist.

Eyes closed of course! You know the line. Close your eyes and see the music!

1st 30 min or so, eyeS opened

the rest of the day, eyeS closed - sleeping

Actually, my eyesight is around 20/200—legally blind—so you could say I have 2 × 1/2 = 1 eye. @thecarpathian

My Acoustats are in front of our living room windows which have a view of South Whidbey Island. (See my system) For casual listening, the view is quite pleasing. When listening seriously, I close the drapes which dramatically cuts down on reflections although even when open it's not bad.

I also close my eyes which helps my mind focus on the soundstage. It's really pretty amazing, to me anyways, the difference it makes especially for small combos.

I'm hoping our next home, which will have a dedicated music room, won't have the large windows to deal with but I'll make do wherever we wind up. wink

Happy listening.
