Roon Issues - Not able to play certain tracks

well finally!

On April 20, 2026, we’ll release a new version of Roon that brings performance improvements and significantly reduced memory usage.

This means the code that’s currently running and cannibalizes memory is going to be fixed. I hope I am reading it right. This could possibly mean better sound quality. I’m hoping that I’m making the right assumption here. And Nucleus not impacted with the new hardware/firmware requirements. Alright! I can wait - my subscription runs out in May so if they fix it this month I might keep it. We’ll wait and see.

And yes Tidal is solid - sound quality is amazing and most importantly it works!

I expect next week I will pre-pay for 4 years for Jplay, which gets it for life for the same amount! 

Whereas with Roon one must pre-pay 5.5 years worth to get a lifetime subscription 

Yeah jplay is definitely a good value. 
I shut the nucleus down until the update is released on 4/20/2026.  
I have jplay for streaming, my buddy’s cd player that I’ve been enjoying, and my table with a few vinyl records on the way to listen to and add to my collection. I will not be missing Ruin I can guarantee it.

This latest problem with Qobuz tracks is mostly on Qobuz I think...that seems reasonably clear at the Roon forum.  Or at least the Roon Defense Force is out in full on it. 

@jji666 i have to disagree on this point.like @audphile1 I’d found Roon stalling on various tracks over the past few weeks (e.g, Baba O’Riley and Steely Dan’s Peg,, surely two of the most available tracks any where); when it happens i go to JPLAY and the track plays with no problem.  Qobuz is not the problem.  

I think the current Roon operating system has reached the point of becoming what is called “technical debt”. It’s where it’s no longer feasible to continue to apply patches as the foundation itself cannot support bugs/defect fixes and new features. 
The only option is to re-write most of the code. They are modernizing the application. And finally acknowledging that the current software has issues to the degree that it causes memory leaks. That’s why restarting Roon daily addresses performance issues Hopefully we’ll get a better version of Roon April 20th.
