Given the equipment you have, the sweet spot would be the Technics SL1300G with either a Nagaoka MP500 or an Ortofon LVB250. The SL1300G has the same new motor as the Technics SL1200GS and a modest amount of added weight without the added hooha pitch adjustment, etc. I have the 1300G with those carts, and it’s a match made in heaven. I have 2,000 records and my Technics outplays by high end Innuos with ease. Given that you only have 20 records or 200 records, the Sl1200G or the GS is overkill.
Techniques 1200 g versus 1200 GR2 for small vinyl collection
My current system is luxman 595 class amp, Moon 891 amp, and focal sopra n1 speakers.
I have a small vinyl collection. Probably about 20 vinyls. I don't see myself buying love vinyls cuz I'm mostly just streaming. I want to get a techniques turntable because they remind me of the turntable my family used to have.
I'm looking at the techniques SL 1200 GR2 or the SL1200 g. I would get the ortofon black cartridge.
To save money I'm thinking about the GR2. Would I regret it and wish I got the SL1200 later? Would it be silly to buy the 1200 g when I only have 20 vinyls and I do mostly streaming?

@porchlight1 Thank you.... I do not have the 891 yet, I am trying to save up for it but keep getting hit with life bills My speakers are Focal Sopra N1 On the week days I play the Moon 861 amp with the Yamaha Rn-2000a streamer/preamp. I know... bad combo but a tie me over. On the weekends I play the Luxman 595 Class a integrated amp with the Eversolo A10 stream. I enjoy this alot. In fact, I feel like I could live with just this amp alone in life. But, I get used to the same sound and that is why I need a seperate 2nd system to keep my ears refreshed. It is where I would be using the turntable until I get enogh money for the 891 streamer/preamp Moon.

I also use variety to help keep engaged: variety of carts including SPUs, a SS system focusing on transparency and lower noise floor, a tube system to explore tube midrange magic starting with SETs, and both analog and digital audio chains. |
