Techniques 1200 g versus 1200 GR2 for small vinyl collection

My current system is luxman 595 class amp, Moon 891 amp, and focal sopra n1 speakers.

I have a small vinyl collection. Probably about 20 vinyls. I don't see myself buying love vinyls cuz I'm mostly just streaming. I want to get a techniques turntable because they remind me of the turntable my family used to have.

I'm looking at the techniques SL 1200 GR2 or the SL1200 g. I would get the ortofon black cartridge.

To save money I'm thinking about the GR2. Would I regret it and wish I got the SL1200 later? Would it be silly to buy the 1200 g when I only have 20 vinyls and I do mostly streaming?

This is great information thank you.

Most of my records will be 12-in mixes of electronic music from the ’90s. Like razormaid mixes. The two albums that I bought brand new recently are dinosaur Jr and mazzy Star which are guitar music

I was going to go with the ortofon black cart for around 1k

which black, this one has a Sapphire Cantilever/Shibata Stylus Shape

MC Quintet Black S

The Quintet Black S is the best example of Quintet’s overall excellence.

The Quintet Black S is graced with a Nude Shibata diamond, considered one of the best stylus profiles available, mounted on a high-performance Sapphire cantilever.

I like Audio Technica, this MM, user replacable stylus is Boron Cantilever/MicroLine Stylus shape $329. If it has an x in it’s model number, it’s boron.

Here’s one of their Moving Coils, Boron/MicroLinear $649.

If you can afford the SL 1200 G, please go for it. You won’t regret it. I have two turntables: a Technics SL 1200 GR with Ortofon cartridges and a Denon DL 103 with an MC preamp. It sounds heavenly; since then, I’ve bought 60 more LPs in addition to my original 400. I also have a Denon DP 3000 NE, which I can also recommend—it costs only 2,200 euros. What amplifier with MM/MC phono input do you have?

Take a look at the Technics SL 100-C. You might find it appropriate for your needs. I have a SL 1200 GR. I think it's a great table for the money. I do not need any of the DJ features, though. If the SL 100-C were available at the time I bought the GR, I would have bought the SL 100-C.

Another vote for getting a Fluance RT85, a phono preamp from Schiit Audio, and enjoy the albums you have.  That table punches way above its price point.   If you continue collecting vinyl, then upgrade your table and use the Fluance as a secondary table or a table to test the quality of any used albums you pick up.
