For a short time Audio Research had a trade-in program direct from the factory that included the Ref 6. And yes, it will be a notably improvement over your Ref 5SE, but obviously smaller than moving up to the Ref 6SE.

Hey @skids, Funny enough I have ARC components in my garage and vettes as well! It is not my main system but sounds excellent (which it shouldn't) being in a 1000 square foot concrete box. I'm hoping you get a smokin' deal on the REF6, I have one in the big rig. Not sure how much "better" it will sound in a garage ennvironment. But if you can sell the REF5se at a good price and it makes you happy...go for it. Regards, barts |
Local, I would ask if you can bring your 5, and compare it to his 6. He might be interested to hear the difference. He could add that to his description if you don’t take it home. My friend upgraded, used AR___ to used AR___ I heard the improvement, but we both thought there was something wrong with his existing, have you ever had a check up? Also, the new to him had a much more incremental volume control, that feature alone was enough, but it did sound better also. |
@barts, yes I agree on the garage environment. I know that the room should be the first to dial in, but it's 1200 sq ft, with a high ceiling, and it is a shop. Acoustical nightmare.really, but I make it work. @elliottbnewcombjr In the back of my mind I always wondered if a checkup of my 75se and 5se should be done, although there are no issues. I retubed both units with ARC select from Upscale. |
