Speaker Help Please: Floorstanders around $1Ok to fill very large space with no sub
Hi Gang, haven’t posted in here in years...
A great friend of mine is going through major remodel and looking for 2 large floor standing speakers to fill a great room 38’ long x 20’ wide with a celling that slopes in one direction from 15’-8’. so about 7200 cubic feet.
He is very serious about music. Used to book bands. He listens to a lot of New Orleans groove-based music and Americana. His wife loves female singers, like Brandi Carlisle.
My main advise to him is, since he/his wife don’t want a sub, they will need speakers with sufficient low end.
Haven’t thought too much about amp yet.
He will also use the system for 2 channel home theater watching.

That's a big room. I own the Arendal 1528 Tower 8 10th anniversary editions and can attest to their ability to fill a big space but they aren't for everyone. You need a LOT of power, 450-1000 watts for full range and the are BIG/HEAVY/LARGE. As someone else already suggested, you have to go listen to whatever you're shopping. (Arendal gives you 60 days in home trial but shipping is difficult cause they're LARGE but it's free.) One key here is if you don't like them when you first hear them, you never will. Don't let anyone talk you into "breaking them in". I'm not saying that's not a thing, but be careful of having someone talk you into something you don't like. After that, I'd shop: Goldenear T66, Perlisten R7t, MoFi Sourcepoint 888 or V10, KEF R11 w/subs, Perlisten R5t w/subs. That's for new. Used is a totally different recommendation. Used, I'd be shopping Perlisten S7t, KEF Reference 1 or 3 Metas, (w/sub), Paradigm Persona 9H. Careful of open baffles, electrostats, or horn speakers. They often have placement restrictions and most aren't for everyone. p.s. a quick search on soundstage network and their loudspeaker measurement page will give you some areas to shop. @nondemo , You would recommend GE T66 new over Triton Reference? Also I don’t think you’re getting Paradigm 9H anywhere near 10k used. Founder 120H for 4-5k would be good. |
