If you have fiber to your home, this is what happens 1) The fiber has many twists and turns from the pole/underground, but the underlying hardware takes care of any errors, so there’s no issue there. 2) The fiber in the ONT on your outside wall (or inside wall if you bribed the installer) turns it into ethernet or MOCA depending on your provider. Both ethernet and MOCA have robust error correction at a hardware level, and the IP has error correction at OSI level 2, which is not optional 3) Then you turn it back into fiber for the last 30-60 feet. Is that the idea? |
