Another vote to dump the A8 and then I'd go for the Rivo Plus. Very nice bang for the buck. The A8 is fine but the Rivo Plus will beat it and you redeem money from the A8 for the Rivo Plus.
FWIW, that would be the way I'd go.
STREAMER - WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?
I've been using the Eversolo DMP-A8 and think it's a mid-range, feature-rich, capable, and attractive machine. For the past few months, my focus has been on putting my system together (e.g., new caps on the amps, new tubes, getting clean power, turntable, phono stage, etc) and have felt that I've been overly focused on the analog side. I've long wanted to work on getting my end game digital setup and pulled the trigger on a BAT Rex 3 DAC and now want a streamer that mates well with it. I know little about streamers. . .just enough to get lost in the topic.
Other than an easy-to-read screen and balanced outputs, what features should I look for in an endgame streamer that will deliver a significant performance boost? I invite any suggestions.
I’m using the Eversolo DMP A10 as a streamer, DAC, and preamp, with great success. One part I don’t hear mentioned in this thread is Tidal is broadcasting at increasingly higher resolution than available with CD’s or SACD. Apparently without fanfare as no one mentioned it. 24 bit 192 hz is relatively common. Although I am curious to try Revox new reel to reel as the ultimate, I no longer see an advantage to vinyl at this resolution. I’m running directly into an Ayre 5xe and Audio Physic Virgo II. I use the Eversolo phone or iPad app again with great success. |
@jameslcroak I agree with you about higher resolution. Unless you own vinyl why would anyone want to start and this is where I'm at this moment. I have an Innuos Pulsar and Accuphase DC-37 Processor/DAC and the resolution is incredible. My Pulsar gives me incredible PRAT, imaging and detailed etc so why would I consider an alternate source? And while there are some extremely incredible turntables how do you measure them against an incredible sounding streamer/DAC? I couldn't sleep one evening so I slipped into my man cave and listened to Bobo Stenson Trio's "Cantando" and then an album called strangely called "The Gathering - Guitar Various Artists 2024" and I was utterly enthralled by the music and the ease of streaming it right from the comfort of my chair. I've had the opportunity to demo and own various streamers and there is a huge difference between a good one and an exceptionally great one. Regardless what some people will tell you there's more to it than just 0s and 1s. Power supply, isolation make a huge difference. Think about it, if all streamers are alike then the same could be said about vinyl. Not to mention a really good turntable with a terrible cartridge is like a sport's car with misaligned tires - crap.
