Streamer only
@soix - Typically, but the RME ADI-2 DAC receives the 192K 24 bit toslink signal and utilize it without any drops.  The WiiM Pro app is set to 192K output and it works a charm. The app also sees regular updates and is Roon Ready in my system.
Streamer only
Going to add to the comments pile here because sometimes people are looking for an answer to their question, not justification for what others are doing. First, forget using any computer. Streamers are too good and too cheap not to utilize them a...

bondmanp - that's just a filter there.  This is about cascading Cisco switches. Ethernet goes from the router to the Cisco. The Finisar transceiver goes into the gigabit port on the right. A fiber optical cable is connected to the transceiver ...
New streamer needed
riccitone - haven’t tried many switches but did try two different Cisco switches: 2960 & Meraki. Alpha Audio has done a lot of tests on various models (via YouTube) in great detail but they go the copper (ethernet) way and not optical fiber. ...
New streamer needed
WiiM Pro, 5v LPS, Roon into a RME ADI-2. Super nice when cascading Cisco switches, Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL transceivers and a short Blue Jeans ethernet cable into the WiiM Pro.  Before dropping a ton of money, consider using the WiiM Pro as a strea...

My mistake, somehow I muffed the model number: Finisar FTLX1475D3BTL 10km 1310nm Single Mode. Have also heard very good about other similar Finisar models (typically used with 1GB limited switches) like this one: Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL 1310nm SFP...

Just an add on for those considering or using a fiber optic solution run between switches (Cisco here) to the WiiM Pro. The Finisar FLTX1474D3BTL (10km 1310 Single Mode) SFP+ is a significant improvement with one added to either end of a three me...

Hello knock1, was in the same camp as you and thought coax was superior because folks have repeated that over and over. Had been using that glass toslink from the RME ADI-2 to a plasma TV. The cable is pretty old. I don't even recall the year and ...
Stepping into streaming, finally
Have the Wiim Pro in an original tube monoblock system. Some recent and other important changes. Always ran the WiiM Pro with a 5v external LPS. Changed the out from coax to optical into a RME ADI-2 with a glass toslink cable I had available. Sur...
Network/Ethernet Improvements Suggestions
To close the loop, now cascading two Cisco 2960 boxes with SFP fiber in between. A short one foot ethernet to streamer. New ballgame, far superior to fiber on with FMCs.  Takes a high end system it to an entirely new level. It’s really astonishin...
Network/Ethernet Improvements Suggestions
Would consider a LPS on the second media converter and then Ethernet direct to your player.    There, I said it. The optical fiber may have a nice audible difference. The rest I believe is not worth the time and effort. Have used fiber in several...
Does the streamer effect sound quality
texbychoice - underrated comment. You're so correct about the quality of Toslink as a quality connection. Recently, I decided to invert my system so the optical no longer handles TV audio but goes from a WiiM Pro. Had not tried it but thought the...
Relationship between Ethernet Switch and SQ
So this is a somewhat odd thread but I’ll add to the pile. Noise is an issue that is hard to fathom as when it’s there, you may not realize it. When it’s reduced you certainly can. Had used the fiber optical solution seen here in the video and it...
What DAC to buy?
That's a reasonable amount to spend for your system. I would get a used RME ADI-2 DAC.  You'll never regret it and you'll have a great piece in the future with any other system changes. Yes, I own one in a big tube monoblock floor standing speake...
Ethernet streaming
If funds were available, I'd go with the dCS Lina and a separate streamer.  Lots of good streamers now, lots.
