What happened to Mytek?

Mytek seems to have gone silent over the past 3 years or so.   I looked around online and in their web site and can't find any recent product reviews, their news page and jobs listings haven't been updated since 2021 or so.

Did they silently go under?

I owned the first generation Manhattan, and it was phenomenal.  I’m glad that I sold it off before they did their disappearing act.  Mytek products on the cover of Stereophile more than once, and other audio magazines as well.  It’s unbelievable how they just flat out disappeared.  If their CEO winds up reappearing with another company, I hope that someone flags him, because I would stay the heck away.

It all seems to come down to their plans and costs not aligning.  Didn't they have a dispute with a manufacturer who ended up making their own line of products??

Yes, they did.  Still, they could provide some answer to their former customers, instead of a disappearing act

Michal at Mytek here to clarify the rumors.
We are here working very hard.

There was indeed a legal dispute between the former contract manufacturer of Mytek products in Poland and Mytek related to Mytek trademark in Europe and several other countries as well as IP rights and know how for circuits. Difficult and costly legal dispute lasted almost 2 years and ended w Mytek winning all the rights back and both parties going their own separate ways. Obviously all this was extremely difficult for us and private enough not to be shared publicly, hence some internet rumors , most of them not really correct, invented and repeated speculations and vigilante trolling. In meantime Mytek rebuilt its manufacturing capability which is now conducted by newly established Mytek Europe Corp in Poland responsible for current product line (Empire, Brooklyn Bridge II etc). Mytek Europe now has some capacity to support legacy products manufactured before by former contractor. For the past year we have been gradually addressing all the past due deliveries (upgrades), on case by case basis, while also providing continuous support to existing users.

To put things in perspective:  we have sold and now have over 10,000 pcs of legacy Mytek Hi Fi products (Brooklyn DAC, Manhattan DAC or the very popular Brooklyn Bridge) actively being used to play music in the US  and Mytek continues providing  support for these. We have support contact in the form of email and tel nr which you can txt and call.
9 of 10 repairs of old product line happen in reasonable time frame via tech support in New York , and you don’t hear about them, these customers don't really post their praises here. Occasionally a difficult repair may have been sent to Poland and it's true some of them took long time in the past and these customers have been very vocal about this.  At this point, we have the new system functioning and finishing the clean up which includes addressing (now relatively small amount) of past due upgrades and complicated repairs. We understand this may have required  unlimited patience in the past, and sincerely apologize for this unwitting experience of some customers caught in the middle.

In parallel, continuing our tradition of cutting edge innovation, we have developed new products with very successful high performance technology (amazingly sounding Empire GanFET amps and our best Empire DAC/Streamer yet). Our current product line is best made and sounding yet, and was moved up in terms of price/performance/craftsmanship  because of the new unrelated massive challenge from current Chinese entry level DACs and other hi-fi products profoundly affecting this market in the last 5 years.

To sum up: Mytek established in 1992 in New York City has made professional mastering ADCs and DACs ever since and since 2010 also Hifi DACs and Class D amps (famous Brooklyn line with Stereophile product of the year in 2019). The earlier mentioned dispute happened 4 years ago and disrupted the production and sales of now Mytek legacy products for 2 years, while the new current product line was developed. New manufacturing capability was setup with Mytek Europe Corp in Warsaw which is now in a startup mode taking on the task of current production and repair and support of all products. We have a contact for support in the US via email and phone (posted on www.mytek.audio) and have supported continuous requests nad will continue. We encourage everybody to contact us via this regular channel and will help you as quickly as we can, so if you feel like you were not serviced adequately before, please try us again. We now have capacity and remain committed to supporting all products made in the past, which often includes very old products like the 2005,  8X192 mastering ADDAs which are still being used and highly regarded by mastering engineers, which is a proof our product last in service for very long time, much longer than average electronics, because they continue sounding better than a lot of "new" ones.
I also wanted to thanks all customers who use and continue appreciate Mytek products and have supported us through these very difficult business experience. Sincerely, Michal at Mytek .You can contact me via support email on www.mytek.audio

It is not only pre-orders that they fail to deliver but also the products that are stated as 'In Stock' on their website. They could be making high quality equipment but the service is really terrible. It is impossible to get an answer that you could trust through the so-called official support email on their website.  It's already been 10 months since my order for a Liberty line headphone ampifier with no progress and they are not even responding to the emails since end of last year.  You can imagine the extent of established manufacturing capacity in Warsaw the company owner refers above. Better stay away from this business.
