Just by way of example, the Roon Nucleus One is said to run an Intel N305, which is apparently comparable to older I3s, less powerful than modern I3s, and way less powerful than I5s. So also not recommended for big libraries, DSP, or multi-room use.
Replacing Roon - What Should I get?
I'm tired of Roon having brain farts. I have an original Roon Nucleus and have updated and augmented the Memory. This helped for a bit. But now, I keep having to reboot the darn thing.
It's not my network. I have checked it out and everything in the house works fine.
Here is the setup. A direct fiber optic link goes to the Router. Then ethernet to Roon from the Router. This way I get Roon to talk with the setup upstairs. I have an 35 foot ethernet cable that runs through the walls directly from the router into my dCS Lina.
I want to replace the Roon. I am thinking about an Innuos Stream. Just need a streamer that can hold Roon/Tidal. Don't need a DAC as the dCS does that quite well. I have a SSD in the Nucleus that holds a ton of my music that I want to move over.
Thoughts on what to replace the Roon with? Innuos (Stream) always get bandied about. I hear about Arender as well. I don't want to get an updated Roon.
I also wonder about deleting and reinstalling the Roon App on my iPads.
Thanks in Advance

@erik_squires +1 regarding cooling comments. “ CPU thermal throttling is an automatic protective mechanism built into modern Central Processing Units (CPUs) designed to prevent hardware damage from overheating . Here is a breakdown of what it is and how it works: ### What is CPU Thermal Throttling? ### How It Works ### Impact on Performance ### Why It Happens While throttling itself is a safety feature and not inherently damaging, the fact that it is occurring means your cooling system is struggling to keep up with the workload . I suspect that under ideal circumstances even with DSP engaged Nucleus One is sufficient. The problem is most likely bad and inefficient code that causes CPU over utilization and memory leaks and eventually results in this thing cannibalizing itself. A hard reboot will flush it and it will get back to normal for a short period of time…a day or two may be slightly longer. Those who report no issues - does your core run 24/7 or do you shut it down frequently? |
Hi, Marcin here – creator of JPLAY. First of all, thank you for the kind words about the app. JPLAY is still relatively new and we're actively and intensively developing it. I've gone through your posts in this thread and taken notes on the feedback and feature requests you'd like to see – really appreciate you taking the time to share that. Regarding the playback stops – I wanted to clarify that these are not glitches in the app. JPLAY acts as a remote control – it sends a command and the track URL to your streamer (UPnP renderer), and from that point it's the streamer itself that fetches and plays the audio. JPLAY does not touch the audio data at any point. When a stream stops mid-track, it means the renderer (your streamer) momentarily lost its ability to pull the data from the network. This is typically caused by network configuration issues – things like Wi-Fi instability, or having multiple control apps running at the same time. A few things worth trying: make sure your streamer is on a wired 1Gbit Ethernet connection, close any other control apps running in the background (including Roon), and check your router configuration (e.g. DNS settings). Rebooting router, modem and access point is sometimes worth doing. If you'd like help troubleshooting, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] Best regards, |
