@danmar123 when you’re used to EQ’d presentation of the WiiM Ultra it’s difficult for the brain to adjust to the’ neutral sound.
Try saving the WiiM settings then putting it all to default. Listen to few tracks with it then compare tto Innuos.
Introducing a new streamer like this innuos shouldn’t require tube rolling and definitely shouldn’t require using different tubes as tone controls. If you like the equalizer settings in WiiM, just keep the wiim. Or give yourself more time to see of you adjust to the neutral sound without tone controls.
USB cable recommendations
I recently purchased the Bricasti M3 for my system & am looking to upgrade my A-B USB cable. I currently have 2 USB cables that I used with my prior DAC (Qutest), a Cardas Clear that I preferred with my Qutest & an XLO ultra plus that I far prefer with my M3. It is OCC copper & actually sounds very good, but wondering if I can do better.
My target price is around $500 used, certainly willing to do less & willing to do more for the ’right’ cable. I am looking for a cable that is absolutely neutral.
I actually tried to buy an AQ diamond used yesterday, but was 2 hours late. Not sure if it was the right choice, but it was a great price & could resell if not right.
My virtual system is available, but my digital side is: Aurender N150 > XLO ultra+ > Bricasti M3 > Zavfino Arcadia > PSAudio BHK w/tele medical NOS tubes > Zavfino Fusion mk2 > SimAudio Moon 330A > Transparent + gen 5 > KEF Reference 3’s.

I have over 40 years with tubes. My first amp was a Dynaco, back in the 70s. I've help set up some of the biggest clubs in Manhattan back in the day. Haven said that, the Innuos lacked separation with the LinLai tubes. I just replaced the KR for Sylvanias Chrome top JANs ,(my Fav.) about 2 hrs ago & things are looking up. I'll give them a few more hours to heat up. I still have a few more tubes in my stash. I will see. Thanks

Well since my last post, I changed to my KR chrome tops & everything jelled. My weakest link in my system is the ethernet cable from AliExpress (silver). I just missed out on a Sablon 2020 which I think will match up in my system. The hunt continues. I also have a few more companies on my radar. Patiently waiting for a used cable to come in my site. |
