High end sound

So I'm gonna get to the point. My system sounds kind of flat and dull

It doesn't seem to have crisp tight sound it all. It should sound much better. I think than it does. I'm wondering if it's the old speaker cables and interconnects and I have a old vintage phono cartridge it just seems like it's kind of dead sounding...Vpi classic

As long as the gauge is thick enough for the run, nothing will sound better than plain old OFC. Fact. Anyone here who says differently is willfully ignorant or lying.

While I agree that plain, decent gauge OFC is all that’s ever necessary, I do know of audiophiles who are genuinely convinced they hear improvements from esoteric designs. As Neil deGrasse Tyson might say, it’s their “personal truth”, as opposed to an “objective truth.” This doesn’t imply their ignorance is consciously willful or some manner of cognitive dissonance. Rather, they are highly susceptible to placebo and expectation bias. I have a local audiophile buddy who falls into this camp. I used to judge his type negatively. But it’s pointless to do so, because his proclivity to relying on subjective input doesn’t hurt anyone. If he was a conspiracy theory nut, and trying to convince others of outlandish falsehoods or getting people to join a cult, that’d be a different matter.

I agree about the speaker wire. I’m using 10 gauge stranded wire for mine. To look at them, you’d think they are high priced purchased wires. All my interconnects are Hosa XLR’s, except for my turntable. I am using Transparent there as well as from my DBX 360 to my Krell monoblocks and my digital cable is also Transparent. Most of my cable lengths are long, thus the XLR’s.
