It curious that there is such an imbalance between men and women in the audio world. My academic background was in Physics and it was the same there. On the surface, it appears to be a choice made by girls and women. Maybe there are barriers of which I am unaware. In science education, there’s talk about the lack of role models for girls. I find it hard to believe that would be a full explanation.
It’s only anecdotal but my wife just doesn’t care for sitting down and doing nothing but listen to music. It would be torture for her and she prefers mainly escapist TV. She happily listens to Smooth Radio when driving and her standard very limited playlist when exercising. Also, she likes concerts. Perhaps, the difference has something to do with her being an extrovert activist and me an introvert reflector.
