While loving qobuz (and our friend LampizatOr‘s DACs) anyone who‘s ever heard an Audionet Planck2 hooked up with Voodoo Labs DARK MATTER rare earth balanced interconnects play a CD will n e v e r raise his voice against the CD format ever again.

Sounds like the studio Telefunken in MPS studio in the Black Forest. Which is where Oscar Peterson and Bill Evans went to get state-of-the-art recordings.

I concur. Those MPS discs are pure Gold.

Happy Listening!

Yes, but it is still relevant.  Interestingly enough I would offer the following.  I have Qobuz, a Luxman DX10, a Marantz SA10 and I will not list all the vinyl stuff.  Here is how it breaks down for me.  Qobuz is a very useful scouting tool.  I read a review that seems like something of interest, then preview on Qobuz.  If I like it I buy it.  Vinyl is first choice, unless it is >2x the price of the cd.  The 10XD sounds a teeny tiny bit better than the SA10, not enough to worry about frankly.  But here's a thing that happens every now and then.  A disc will not play on the 10XD.  No amount of coaxing, in-n-out, on-n-off, nothing works, nada, will not play.  Except every disc will play in the SA10.  Always.  Never had a problem with it.  So here is an open book quiz.  Take a brand new, undamaged cd that the DX10 will no play, but plays just fine in the SA10.  The question is not which one sounds better, that one is a gimme in this situation.  The question is this:  D10X cost me $16K =/-, the SA10 cost me $4,500+/-, if you could only have one knowing what I know now, which would you choose?

Many of us use streaming to check out a recording but then prefer a physical copy for permanent use if it passes muster.  Others prefer total streaming.  Whatever floats your boat, enjoying music in good sound is the goal and there are many ways to get there
