The Music Room is Slipping

I cannot recommend doing business with them any longer. They DEEPLY lowball you when you sell them gear and then forget all about the mass profits they made on you when you are looking to buy something from them, They offer to stand behind a purchase, yes... but the reality is that it is all about max profits on used gear and lack of any sort of support or consideration going forward. They are nothing more than a pawnshop for audio gear and I am done with them.

I've bought a few things from TMR over the years and have been satisfied.  You pay a little more than a private sale, but there is a little, sometimes a lot, more security in the transaction.  Where I have an issue is selling to them.  I had an older Audio Research tube amp which I had been hanging on to for a long time.  I did not have a complete box for it, so I was afraid to ship myself.  I contacted them and they offered $500.  Below what I expected, but not that far off what I thought I could sell it for, at best $1000.  I was already driving from Michigan to Colorado, I was visiting PS Audio, so I said I would drop it off.  I saved them some shipping charges and thought they would give slightly more when I dropped it off.  Nope.  Well, I watched the site and they listed it within three days for $1500!  I looked closely at the pictures and didn't appear they did anything to it; it was in good shape, fully functional and had a low hours set of tubes.  Sold within a few days.  No idea if it went for full price, but they typically don't discount much initially.  So I assume they made a quick $1000.  I was not happy with that and contacted them.  First contact was from a salesman saying "we can't do anything".  Second contact was to the owner and he said, "what do you want me to do?"  At that point I was pretty annoyed, why can't you just say here's a $xxx credit to make the customer happy.  I just told them I was not going to do business with them.  Haven't bought anything since, though I'm over it and may buy again.  I don't trust private sales from total strangers anymore.  If anyone is trying to sell and you don't like the offer, but you want to get rid of the item sell it on consignment.  I would have been much better off that way ...

i had a good experience with the Music Room...i bought an amplifier, they even offered a small discount, they  packed it in a very protective box and with reasonable return policy  ...they are for business; they have to pay employees, rent and other business expenses, not to mentioned offering a fair payment plan ( i did not use it )--i will definitely buy from them again.

I've had all good experiences with TMR in the past both buy and sell.

Recently, they asked me about a preamp and upgraded SS amp I thought about selling, and I followed up just for grins.  Was not expecting anything really.

Their one-up buyer said they could not even offer me "anything" on the matching set.  Firstly, due to some rarity and low volume production of these units - I suspect they might not have known much about it or the expensive upgrades from an industry pro.  And, Its also possible they have a glut of inventory right now. Might be a buyers market there right now.  Fwiw, don't be afraid to make offers right now with TMR - I'm thinking.  Worth a try, see what they do :)

I’ve been working with Ryan at TMR and have gotten a fair deal on trade ins. When they low ball you, just turn around and sell it on your own. I’ve done that.
Since I’ve been working with pretty much the same sales guy there, I normally get a decent deal. If not, I go elsewhere. I don’t take it personally. That’s what the competition is for - buy where you get the best deal.

Good experiences. Tried other ways to sell and have had amplifiers lost and large speakers arrive damaged. I do not want to go through that anymore. If you don't get a fair price to your liking move on. Peace of mind is worth it. Staff is very quick and efficient
