Going to Japan and buy from Japan

Wife is planning a family trip with kids to Japan in 2027. How and where to buy a new or used Accuphase gear and bring / ship back to US?

i probably need a way to communicate to arrange with a store there in Japan prior?

if you know a place in Japan that can convert voltage to US, please also share.

If you already know the brand, for this suggestion, let’s say it’s Accuphase, reach out to them directly, see if they would allow you to tour their facility and if they would be able to provide the unique experience of buying a piece of gear either direct from them or one of their local authorized dealers with the right voltage straight out of their factory.  If it’s not about saving $$ but an experience and you share that, they might oblige.  Some Car manufactures will let you order a car and pick it up off line, Audi being one. I have toward HiFi manufactures in the past.

@inna - I know you're not the one saying it, but never breaks? Accuphase must have no warranties, then. I guess if the apparently impossible happens and something goes wrong (which 'they' would seem to think will happen as often as I win the Powerball), 'they' will pony up for repairs?

Could be a fun experience, Do your due diligence contact both Accuphase  America and Luxman America and see what their response is.  Also find someone here whom is experienced in repairing your unit. I thought about it, then was told the manufactureres won't service the Japanese units. good luck with your choice.

From the internet:

  • No Warranty or Service: Accuphase officially does not support products used outside their authorized country. U.S. service centers will likely refuse to repair imported, gray-market units, even if you are willing to pay for it.

For me, that would be a non starter.

Consider the costs of shipping and importing the unit, because nowadays they won’t be insubstantial. An Accuphase power amp must have 15 or 20 kg of copper in it (transformers), and we now have a special tariff on copper.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for creative solutions and bypassing useless intermediaries. I bought a Japanese tool from a Tokyo seller, saved some 40% off MSRP and had an excellent experience to boot. But an Accuphase amp? I wouldn’t straight out advise against it because it sounds like fun, but I would recommend doing plenty of research and running numbers first.
