Jay's rooms almost done - getting nervous

It seems Jay  audiophile success which will come soon is rooted in optimization process...Especially his better understanding of acoustics since his youtube beginnings after having bought hundred of amplifiers and speakers in a room devoid of any real acoustics control......

For sure you dont optimize a low cost system as mine with no budget with the same devices as his high end one with a budget ...( i was using mechanically tuned  Helmholtz resonators made from plumber trash among many others cheap devices)

But the basics are the same :  mechanical optimization,electrical,acoustical,DSP optimization... 

No system at any price can work at his peak without optimization...

A dedicated room is the first step ...

 As an aside i hope some day he will try the Choueiri filters...

Good for Jay for going after his dream. Creating content consistently isn’t easy - it takes courage, time, and a willingness to put yourself out there like he does. I don’t always have the bandwidth to sit around watching videos or firing off 15,000 comments, but I respect that he's actually building something.

In this video, he’s very clear about his intentions. The invitation is exclusive-  you’re not getting in unless you can show the means to make a serious purchase of his product, or vetted by someone that know you have the capacity. That’s his lane. He’s defining his audience and drawing a firm line. If you go to 12:30 he starts to let some of you down easy. 

It’s kind of refreshing. He’s not looking for the guy who wants to buy an empty box and then spend all day at his home listening to Wilson’s and calling it “research.” you know who you are! He’s aiming at a specific buyer with real capacity.

Whether you agree with the model or not, at least it’s transparent. In business, clarity- even bold clarity-  is part of the game.

So if you want to pack up your Techniques speakers in the trunk and hook them up to a $60,000 amp you have to go elsewhere.

You and I have two very different definitions of courage.

Courage is standing your ground in a trench on a frozen battlefield outnumbered 10-1 while being constantly bombarded by artillery, and being incessantly hunted by drones while fighting the cold, fatigue, and hunger. What it definitely is not, is doing a little writing and YouTube’ing. Yeah, how courageous...

That message was kind of creepy. I don't think you could bring anything to his house that would be better than what he already has. I'm a big fan of Jay but I don't expect to go to his house. It's a business and I don't have that kind of money.

I do hope he starts his reviews again though. Otherwise I think my attention will start drifting away.

The rooms are obviously going to be reference-grade, so I’m not losing any sleep over that. The floors, on the other hand, look like they have a noise floor of about –120 dB but a friction coefficient of roughly zero. Might need a strategically placed rug for both acoustics and liability.

My only real anxiety is the same as yours: still waiting on the BBQ invite. I’m happy to bring records, ribs, or a calibrated opinion about whether the first reflection point should be treated before or after dessert.  Or maybe a red that pairs well with brisket and first pressings?  And of course a slip and fall lawyer?  But what to wear….?
