Review on Bricasti Design M3 DAC

My review was just posted on Stereo Times website on the Bricasti Design M3 DAC. If you are searching for a DAC/streamer/analog volume control DAC, no preamp needed with the M3, in the price range of $5,000, you might want to get the details of why you might want to audition this piece. It's superlative in both build quality, innovative design, and most importantly in it's beautiful musical performance.

@artg two ways to stream with Bricasti

1. use mconnect app. You can login to Qobuz or Tidal. User interface is very mediocre at best. Sound quality is not as good as Roon in my experience

2. Roon - pick up a Roon Nucleus One around $500 direct from Roon. That’s going to be your best configuration.
In both cases - network cable into Bricasti. If you end up with Roon then network cable into Nucleus. The streaming will be via network.

What @audphile1 said. I have an M3 and picked up a used Antipodes CX to run Roon server, but the Nucleus will do the job. I compared the network connection to USB, and the network far exceeded the sound quality of the USB. You are in for a treat.

thanks for explaining, ok I'll give roon a shot after all. mostly i didnt ant any loss of fidelity, which you are saying isnt an issue with roon. thank you!!!

I have never tried Qobuz app with my Bricasti M3 w/ network. Audirvana worked easily with my iMac connected to the router via wifi, though. The sound quality difference between the iMac and a music server was enormous. The difference between playback apps is obvious in my stereo. For me Jplay is about 90% as good as Roon functionally but sounds 20% better. I wish Roon was as good so I could drop my Jplay subscription. I also tried Mconnect, lumin and Kazoo which functioned very poorly in my case with use a sonictransporter. The sonic transporter is at least more flexible than a roon server. Bricasti build quality, functionality and remote are fantastic. I would have a hard time trying another brand.
