@dwette slightly confused; what is doing the streaming for you now? The rabbit hole that awaits you is a standalone streamer plus your new dac plus QC …
Roon vs Qobuz Connect
Yes the title is misleading because Qobuz is a server and Roon is an aggregator. But this question is for all those who stream Qobuz via Roon, or via Qobuz Connect (QC).
There is little doubt that QC sounds significantly better than Roon streaming Qobuz. Admittedly a subjective opinion, but for all of those who agree:
The advantages of Roon in integrating personal and external sources are obvious. To counter this, I can run a small local server and access my personal collection via Qobuz. But the aggregation sucks overall.
What can I do to have my QC cake and eat it too? I’d love to hear about any clever tweaks to imitate Roon’s capabilities, while keeping QC quality.

@debrajray I have a Weiss DAC501-MK2. It has an ethernet input that exposes a Roon endpoint (or UPnP if one prefers). It has no streaming capabilities otherwise, but Roon is all I really need. On very rare occasion I have – in the past – used AirPlay2 to stream Youtube audio from my laptop browser over WiFi. Just yesterday, I bought a WiiM Mini for just that purpose; i.e., to support AirPlay2. I don’t plan to use it otherwise, and I also don’t plan to get a separate streaming transport. I have what I need.

@dwette got it. The Weiss 501-mk2 is fully network enabled and talks directly to Roon core. I use the Moon 891 which is a streamer-dac and hence the choice arises between Qobuz via Roon or just Qobuz. |
@debrajray I previously had a Naim NDX2 streamer/DAC. I tried QC with that. It sounded slightly better, but I really don't like the user experience of Qobuz' controller software. I mostly play jazz and classical, and am more album than playlist oriented. I returned to Roon for it's superior user experience and features in that regard. But it's moot for me now. I have no device for my main system that supports QC. |
@dwette exactly, I dislike the Qobuz controller software quite apart from its inability to aggregate (which I don’t blame it for). Roon is superior in all these aspects — and I have one of those lifetime subscriptions from some years ago. That’s why it irks me to sacrifice on sq, which is discernible to my ears. |
