What to do once you’re finished listening

So I have been struggling with this dilemma ever since I bought my new Focal’s last year.

I have a nice proper headphone hook on the side of my audio rack to conveniently hang the phones when not in use. This makes it easy to grab them when I want them, plus I get to enjoy the look of them hanging there. But what about the dust??

Then there is the option of storing them in their protective case but this involves unplugging and plugging the cord into the jacks over and over. I would also need to readjust the ratcheted positioning of the cups to the headband every time. And of course curling up the cable tightly enough to fit into the space in the case.

What is worse? The dust or all the potential mechanical wear and tear 

What do you all prefer?

Personally, I don't treat well-made cans like precious, fragile things that need protection unless I'm traveling with them - I leave 'em on the floor or on a table by my amps. I don't care about dust or 'potential wear and tear'. I have both Focal Utopia OG's and Susvaras, and have had them for years with no problems. What I try to avoid is 'worrying'. laugh

I drape a T-shirt over my uncovered SS amp when it isn’t in use.  While listening, it goes over the back of my chair.  Are you a fan of bandannas or cloth placemats?

Something neat and visually appealing to cover them for dust (moisture too) protection, like I always do.

It’s not so much that dust bothers me but I have read that dust can effect the actual speakers themselves thus effecting the sound quality. Otherwise I never put things in there cases. All my high end guitars hang on the wall for me to enjoy where many guitarists shudder at the idea.

I like the look of the Focals hanging on the rack. A good percentage of my purchase decisions are often based on aesthetics. So I tend to lean towards the leave them out camp but I still wonder about it.

I have an older pair of inexpensive HIFIMan HE 400i's which I never put away. They do still seem fine.
