Franck Avitabile - Paris Sketches (CD). In an uncanny way, this is the perfect companion to Jamie Cullum- Twentysomething (CD/SACD). Both discs feature the Jazz Trio in action.

Jazz for aficionados
curiousjim Stream it first. If you like it, then purchase. Paris Sketches is well-produced, well-recorded. Very much like Jamie Cullum's "Twentysomething", it is a Reference disc to my ears. In comparison, Franck works with well-established musicians on this outing, whereas Jamie did not. Both discs are excellent examples of the piano led Jazz trio.

@jafant @curiousjim Thanks for sharing. I was not aware of either of them They have Jamie Cullum's "Twentysomething" and Franck Avitabile's "Paris Sketches" on Spotify. I listened to both and I like them both. I am not a big vocal jazz fan but listen occasionally when I'm in the mood. Jamie Cullum's vocals are ok to my ears. |
pjw81563 Excellent! Good to read that you dig those releases. The importance of Jamie's release, is that, all of those songs were recorded in the Analog domain. Then, converted to Digital circa 2004. Very unique in their approach to reach Jazz fans. At that time, Jamie was 23, very impressive as his musical scope was quite deep. I had an entry level high-fi system, still I could hear the "magic". My ears did not prove wrong once I played his CD on a $100K system!
Happy Listening!
