This weekend I begin the journey with the CS7.2 for crossover upgrades. 

This starts with the notch filter Tom has mentioned a few times. This filter is carried throughout many models albeit to a lesser degree than the CS7.2 as it uses more caps than other models. 

The results of this testing will take some time as I'm thorough in my approach. I will reserve comment until Tom informs the panel. I mention this as this expedites upgrades for other models.

Taking the crossover out of the 7.2, to have an outboard crossover, will make testing more accurate and changes quicker. This is no simple undertaking. 

This will be done in mono so I will always have the stock CS 7.2 as a reference to see how/where we were able to move the needle. 

When I have them playing I question why switch them out for another model. They are that good and even better with the right room/setup/and power.

Thank you for the tips, very much appreciated! I follow Holt Hill although they’re located clear across the country - love their website and presentation. Their pair of CS5 was local pickup only, however.

The pair in Las Vegas is a DIY project that has had its crossovers modified to allow installation of class D "subwoofer" amp modules, some of its drivers swapped, etc.

The twin listings in Miami are priced attractively indeed, but they’ve been up for over a year so not sure what the story is. In any event that shop is said to be fine to shop in person but buying online is a bit of a gamble. Interestingly, its proprietor is currently involved in managing whatever is left of legendary audio manufacturer Krell.

In an ideal scenario, a set of factory-original CS5i would manifest locally in the Pacific Northwest. No rush :)
