used power amp under 1500
I started with a great system and I managed to downgrade it to an OK sound through a lot of trades, sales, questionable decisions and shrinking budget. (No regrets, it's been a fun journey.) I ended up with very low sensitivity, hard to drive speakers and now I need more power. Will 100 Watts be enough and is it OK and safe to buy used? Any brands that are a good value at $1500?

A good passive input selector is like a 50's child: it should be seen, but not heard. Goldnote is a respected maker of high-end switchgear and volume controls. A person could get a $100 input switch on Parts Express, and those might be unfavorably noticed with regard to the end sound of your system. However, it is highly unlikely that a Goldnote product would behave in such a gauche fashion. Would-be high-end brands like Prima Luna can't afford such premium gear. They use garbage ALPS Blue Velvet controls in their humdrum-yet-$6,000 preamps. I'm a bit of a VC snob. Sorry 😃 My point is, anyone can rest assured Goldnote will do the job. Alternatively one may search for a used Manley Shipjack (no longer made). https://6moons.com/audioreviews/manley4/skipjack.html

@devinplombier first I thought it was a cheap product but the price and internals (and you) indicate that it's not. Now I would just need good cables! |
@parkergetdean there you go: $ 850 Cyclops + $413 Goldnote = $1,263, leaving $237 out of your $1,500 budget to spend on a decent interconnect. Done!
