EAR 834P phono preamplifier

It got decent reviews in the mid 1990s when it first came out. And even now it seems to have following. But how competitive is the original design compared to other MODERN phono preamps  in the $1K range?

I owned an EAR 834P with volume for a decade. It was around $1200 retail when I purchased it. It went through many tubes  replaced the stock RCA jacks, tried many a cable/pc , and "isolation" devices. Enjoyed it but when I went from that to a K&K Audio Trio, there was no doubt I was upgrading, when I heard it in my system. At the time, the Trio was around $2200 retail.

About the EAR Chinese $220 clone ... maybe ....

--if attention is being paid to it, even in budget copycat capacity, that is a compliment.

-- the YT vloggers seem to be impressed with the clone (and most Chinese clones in general) And that's at least as credible as influencers (Darko, Guttenberg, et al) that plug the "legit" brands. Unlikely that Ali pays out much influencer dough. So the  grifters are likely honey-potted by ... (clear throat) ...

OFF-TOPIC: Maybe I'll just stay in China for while longer, sampling Skyanalog and ZHIGE  phono carts.
