used power amp under 1500

I started with a great system and I managed to downgrade it to an OK sound through a lot of trades, sales, questionable decisions and shrinking budget. (No regrets, it's been a fun journey.) I ended up with very low sensitivity, hard to drive speakers and now I need more power. Will 100 Watts be enough and is it OK and safe to buy used? Any brands that are a good value at $1500?

@mm1tt77 I did not mean I dislike Krell. I don’t know Krell. I try to stay away from cult-ish products, and also expensive ones (not by choice) and Krell is at least one of those too. Krell is probably awesome. I think what also influences me is the tone of ads for audio products. Some of them are passive agressive or even provocative. And many can be grouped by brand. Owners of high end audio products are often not the nicest group to put it lightly. For this, subconsciously, I have not clicked on Krell ads for years despite not removing it from my saved craigslist search url list of 20 or so brand.

I agree with you on Parasound and MF. I shied away from Peachtree Audio, haven’t seen a lot of reviews.

One more aspect of my choice: my speakers are about 35 years old now. They will go with my pretty heave usage in a couple years. Then I will either buy another pair of this magic used or have a high sensitivity speaker and sell the power amp I only needed for these ones. So the ability to resell is important, and I will take a 50% loss as I always do.

@dishman442 thank you, are they listed somewhere?

I’ve not listed the Kismit Khartago monos as it’s been quite crazy around here. Big beefy power supplies drove my home grown speakers quite nicely, despite them dropping below 2 ohms at 50 hz. Horrible load for an amp but the monos didn’t break a sweat. Reach out to chat if you wish. I’m not breathing hard on selling them but also not looking to make a ton off them. Klaus said they retailed at $5k the pair.  What I paid was convoluted as I had my stereo chassis converted to mono, upgraded, and bought the second one to match

There is Robertson 4010 and a 6010 for sale one ebay.  Both fabulous amps from the 80s.  The 6010 may need a little work, but these are great. . .Certainly way better than the than some of the stuff being introduced today.

Amp technology is pretty much the same today as  it was 30-40 years ago when these amps were new (and I could not afford them).  Seeing this stuff almost makes me want to start a second system.
