used power amp under 1500
I started with a great system and I managed to downgrade it to an OK sound through a lot of trades, sales, questionable decisions and shrinking budget. (No regrets, it's been a fun journey.) I ended up with very low sensitivity, hard to drive speakers and now I need more power. Will 100 Watts be enough and is it OK and safe to buy used? Any brands that are a good value at $1500?

There you are; maybe the best power amp $1.5K can buy, 20 year warranty. Good luck! https://tmraudio.com/fresh-arrivals/bryston-4b-st-dual-mono-power-amplifier-19/ |
Surprised only one poster brought up current. Its my understanding low efficency speakers need a high current amp. My upgraded Odyssey Kismet ( about 150 wpc) is a high current amp and drives my low efficency Magnepan 1.7i s very well. If you go used with any amp, be mindful of its age. Not all but some cases 12 -15 years is pushing it for cap life. |
@jl35 I didn't know, thanks for the update :) Good question about products that predate the change. Bryston doesn't say (see below), but a warranty is a contract, so whatever terms were in effect as of the date of purchase should be binding. Did they change terms recently?
