Sales Tax for online orders

I just ordered an item here on Agon. The invoice is showing sales tax ($26.00) and a service charge ($2.99). I live in SC and the vendor is in PA. Kind of surprised as I thought sales tax was only applied when you purchase and pick up in the same state? And, the ad doesn't state sales tax and service charge will be applied. Should sales tax be applied in this application?

If the state you live in collects sales tax from online orders, then yes.  Not sure of the $2.99 service charge.

I just got a reply from the vendor, says they don't set the sales tax, that it is set by the Audiogon system.

In 23 I ordered several cords from The Cable Company out of Pennsylvania and no sales tax was collected. also recall KEF Warehouse out of New Jersey didn’t charge sales tax. I’m aware more and more states are adopting online sales tax policies. Sure does make one wonder if the seller pocketing that sales tax if he isn’t required to collect it. Conspiracy theories have begun.
