Thanks for the responses. Right now I have a pair of polk Rti8's. My son (who is now 18) customized two of the woofers by jamming a screwdriver through them. Ahhhh.. kids.
What I am really seeking is clarity in the vocals and instrumentals. I am a huge David Bowie fan and I do enjoy me some of the really popular classical music as well.
The Onkyo AVR just got here a week ago, I have not run dirac yet as I am waiting to get some new mains, and install my surrounds. (I just moved into this house recently so have not been super excited about crawling around in the crawl space to run speaker wire, but I am certainly getting there.
The person with the Focal 948 is currently driving them with an 80 watt per channel amp. He also relayed that he used a 100 watt amp (can't remember the names) and he really couldn't tell the difference.
A guy in my neighborhood also has a B and K EX 4420 amp that was recently serviced with new capicitors and transistors. I was thinking that may be a good way to boost the wattage. I just keep hearing that the Focals sound soo much better with more power, but maybe with the Onkyo I would be able to tell the difference?
Honestly, the audio world can be a little dizzying. In the end I want something that sounds light years better than my rti8's. That seems like a pretty low bar.
Thoughts?
