Tekton Double Impacts

• @tjraubacher  The DI's perform very well at lower volumes.  A number of owners used SET amps and were very happy.  I prefer higher powered SS but that is personal preference.  The volume level will not impact detail, imaging or sound stage.  What will be a consideration is your room size.  You can look at my systems page to see how I managed placement.  Imaging in this configuration is superb.  Some owners have managed to put this speaker into a smaller room and very much enjoyed them.  Just not sure you will max out that sound stage.  But the same will hold true of many large speakers--not just the DI's

Can't believe I have had these speakers for the better part of 10 years now!  

Recently I visited my son in LA over the holidays.  We visited a very high end dealer at that time so he could audition a couple of amplifiers.  I was dumbfounded at the inventory they had on display.  A $750,000--that's 3/4 of a million dollar--Sonus Faber speaker system!!!!  Unbelievable.  Anyway, we auditioned a much more modest pair of Sonus Fabers that still came in at several times  the cost of my DI's.

While I was enjoying music last night and thinking back to to that audition, I smiled.  While some have scoffed at the suggestion the DI's hold their own with speakers 2-3x their modest cost, that is exactly the conclusion I came to.  I found the DI's to be the more neutral speaker with better imaging, tighter/more live sounding bass impact.  In fairness, I doubt the Sounus Fabers had optimized room placement and that may well have impacted my opinion.

Nonetheless, it has been great to have a speaker that has performed so well for so many years that I have no compulsion to get back on the merry-go-round.

Tekton haters, as a last resort, point out how ugly they are.

It's just that when you start to spend a lot of money on speakers or any luxury item, no particular brand, cosmetics plays an important part in gratification. Boxes work fine for some applications. But other times, it might sell more or be nice if there were other shapes, especially in the 'hi-end' market. It's a blend between 'hi-end' and 'affordable', and naturally it'll have conflicts with the 'hi-end' market.

Many 'high end' speakers look like abominations....a smooth surface finish doesn't mean it ain't an abomination to look at.
