Who gets to use your Turntable?

you are all crazy. What's the big deal??? Anyone can learn in 30 seconds to handle the needle. It must be a pain to be around you...

It's not always so cut and dry as you seem to think. I have a Clearaudio Master Innovation with three tonearms and very expensive cartridges. It's easy enough to bang into one of them if you don't pay attention and aren't careful enough. It's not for novices to handle, and who wants to answer to a broken cantilever on a very expensive cartridge?

with a $7500 old man Sugano cartridge and a Dynavector 505 is silly…

I sold my table a few years back because one of my kids snapped the cantilever off of my OM40 cartridge ...   They ruined a few prized records in the process.

Fortunately I kept my records and bought a new table in '22. 

You'll have to forgive me for a don't touch policy in my main room.  While you can show someone how to use or handle something seldom do they do it with the same care you or I may.    

That's part of the reason. I set up a second system  My girlfriend can do everything with the remote.  She has a pile of cool 45s , it's fun.   She doesn't even want to hang in the other room.

If I remember correctly, didn't it use a 1 cent 6 penny nail for a stylus.  Not quite the Ruby/Nude Shibata level of risk...

Well one of my TTs is an HW-40 with an Experian on it.  Current replacement cost for the whole megilla is maybe $30K.  Fun to watch a 10 year old girl cue up Louis on it.  Difference is what makes horse races and all that.
