On a journey for the last couple of years

I have read with interest the feedback from the forums and enjoy hearing other perspectives. I have upgraded my system significantly and feel I am now chasing the perfect system, which as we all know does not exist. The last decision I need to make is to replace my Aragon mono blocks with new mono blocks.

Current System

SimAudio - 740P Pre Amp

SimAudio 260 D CD Player

SimAudio 310 LP Phono Amp

Project X Turn table with Ortofon Black Quintet

Sonus Faber Olympica 5 with Martin Logan Sub (which I may upgrade once mono blocks tested

I am looking to enhance the low end with more punch, the Aragon's are just not doing it and I am considering two SimAudio 761's, Mcintosh MC611, Audio Research Mono Blocks.

I will certainly test drive the amps before purchasing. Thank you for reading my post Happy New Year

and btw, for a non audiophile (or hi end audiophile also), you have a killer system. All your components are 4/5 except your sub which is a 2/5

Dunno if the Aragon are to blame…and slam lives ABOVE subwoofer frequencies… I know a Grammy winning artist / engineer who monitors w Aragon and large B and W…but hey….

The 550s are out of my range this week ;) but you never know what next week will bring. I think you've described Slam in a way that it resonates with me. BTW I just bought the Nova 5's so a little early to be thinking about changing those. I quite like the Wilsons but unless I go with a stand alone listening room my wife (need I say more). I want my music in the great room kitchen area to enjoy the music where we are most.

As it relates to cables I added Straight Wire Virtuoso XLR from my amp to pre amp and Kimber Kable Heros XLR from cd and phono amp.

Thank you for your thoughts, Slam is the word of the day

I've had the Aragons for 30 year's, and have been a fan, I am going to try room optimization and sub woofer before venturing into the next amp selection.

The REL Carbons are great subs, but they are also very expensive especially if you’re getting two.  You could get two Rhythmik E15 subs for less than half the price of one Carbon sub and highly doubt you’d be disappointed by the performance, and they offer a 45-day return period that’s nice to have.  I recommend at least giving them a call as it could save you big $$$ and give you all the performance you’ll ever need.
