which ML sub? I had the 700w and it was very difficult to enjoy, to put it lightly. Maybe you need better subs before new monoblocks.
On a journey for the last couple of years
I have read with interest the feedback from the forums and enjoy hearing other perspectives. I have upgraded my system significantly and feel I am now chasing the perfect system, which as we all know does not exist. The last decision I need to make is to replace my Aragon mono blocks with new mono blocks.
Current System
SimAudio - 740P Pre Amp
SimAudio 260 D CD Player
SimAudio 310 LP Phono Amp
Project X Turn table with Ortofon Black Quintet
Sonus Faber Olympica 5 with Martin Logan Sub (which I may upgrade once mono blocks tested
I am looking to enhance the low end with more punch, the Aragon's are just not doing it and I am considering two SimAudio 761's, Mcintosh MC611, Audio Research Mono Blocks.
I will certainly test drive the amps before purchasing. Thank you for reading my post Happy New Year

+1 @soix If your speakers only reproduce frequencies of 32Hz and above, it would seem silly to suggest changing other equipment? It would seem to be irrelevant how low a CD player can go if the speaker can't produce that sound. IMHO. I also agree with the use of two subs. If you are running mono block amps (as I do) I believe you need two subs to capture all the bass signal. I've not seen a simple hook up that captures the bass signal from L+R mono channels into a single sub. Not saying it can't be done, I just haven't seen it explained. |
Thank you all for the quick response. Room optimization is probably the best place to start, any recommendations on software to assist with set up? Also I upgraded cd player and pre amp and there is a noticeable difference, happy with both. To be clear I am not an audiophile but love great sounding systems. Perhaps best next step is to bring in single amp to demo then add another if necessary. As far as Subs go what recommendations do you have if I were to go with 2. Thank you all for your patience. P |
