Streamer with built in DAC...is there much difference between brands?

I'm using a Node 2. Sounds fine. Why would you upgrade? I've a buddy who has one that cost well into the mid (1-100) thousands and swears it's phenomenal. I don't remember exactly what brand he had before, but it was around $300 or so.

Any thoughts?

The OP is asking (obtusely) about a Streamer with built in DAC.. .I upgraded from a Node (?$500) to an Auralic Altair (Streamer with built in DAC + analog input and volume control), used it only as Streamer / DAC.  The cost was over 2k and the upgrade was significant.  For the cost I really like the Altairs, but I doubt most will be interested in a defunct company.   Too bad, their products are nice.

With essentially the same rest of the system I have owned 3 streamers. 2 lumins and an orchard audio. There have been pretty marked differences in all three. Between the lumin d2 and t2 I would doubt that anyone with decent hearing wouldn’t be able to hear the differences, they were fairly dramatic to me. With your system, going to something like a used lumin t2 would be a revelation - even moving up a little to an orchard audio streamer would be a nice improvement. You just have to try back to back to really know.

++ To most of the comments. There are clear differences as you go up the price ladder with DAC/Streamer combination units. I have a Marantz NA8005 I was looking to replace. I have a Marantz AV 885, with B & W CM10 speakers and find the SQ on the Marantz NA8005 works well with the combination. Am running RCA (analog) into the AV unit.

Because I wanted to try the BlueOS software I tried a Bluesound Node Nano. I find the Nano greatly lacking in clarity and detail compared to the NA 8005. I am also auditioning an Eversolo DMP8. Initially I found the DMP8 lacking in the low end UNTIL I stared messing with the EQ. All I can say is WOW. With the EQ adjustments I can get the Eversolo to sound exactly like the NA8005 OR brighter/darker etc. Way more adjustable (and cleaner sounding) than my old AKG 32 band Equalizer (which I no longer have).

I have not tried the Bluesound Icon with DSP but after sing the Eversolo App I seem to prefer it over the BlueOS App. Keep in mind App's are a personal preference, there are people who prefer one App over the other for many reasons.
